Step 1. The teacher provides a description of the term.

 

Build on direct experiences, such as field trip or a guest speaker, that provides examples of the term:

Virtual Trips, More Virtual Trips, Find or Make Your Own Field Trip, Yahoo Virtual Field Trips, SkypeGoogle Earth 

 

Use video or computer images as the stimulus for the information:

You Tube, Teacher Tube, More Video Resources

 

Teacher created examples using both a linguistic and nonlinguistic piece:

ELA example Verb Voc Example.doc  , Science example Simple_Machine_Voc_Example.doc

 

Use current events to help make the terms applicable to something familiar to the students:

MSNBC, CNN, Yahoo, Google NewsNational Geographic - educator resources

 

Find pictures that exemplify the term:

Math demos for all grade levels

 

Math manipulatives for elementary grades

 

Use a photo editing software such as iPhoto (Macintosh users), Photo Story, or Picasa from Google (PC or Mac user) to demonstrate a term for the students in a slideshow - Photo Story and Picasa

are FREE downloads, iPhoto is part of the software for a Macintosh computer
